LIGA PURMALE
ONE SUMMER

23.09.2003. - 11.10.2003.

Līga Purmale’s solo exhibition „One Summer” takes place on ground floor of Riga Gallery from September 23rd to October 11th, 2003. There are 10 large scale paintings exibited – foggy landscapes (“Morning”, “Evening”), panoramic views of meadows and forests (“Afternoon”), seaside landscapes (“Forenoon”) as well as close-ups of nature’s details (“Garden”, “Poppies’ Field”, “Midday Sun”).

All themes interpreted by Līga Purmale are endowed with certain moods. The artist succeeds to transform reality and enrich it with various effects. Painterly, subtle “portraits” of both natural and urban scenes, balanced compositions of colors and lighting typify Līga Purmale as one of the leading painters of her generation.

Līga Purmale’s solo exhibition “One Summer” is the last show before the large solo exhibition of both old and new works at the State Museum of Art in May 2004. The illustrated catalogue will be published, too.

Since 1974 Līga Purmale had about 20 solo exhibitions. Since 1995 the most extensive of them was in Riga Gallery – “Games” (2001), “Visible World” (2000), “Night Conversations” (1999), “The Landscape without Birds” (1998), “The Sound of Silence” (1997), and “Sentimental Trip” (1995).
Līga Purmale’s works are included in the collections of the State Museum of Art, collection of the Artists’ Union of Latvia, State Tretyakov Gallery.
